The great mystery remains the origin of the gas smell that alarmed much of the Cagliari metropolitan area this morning . Despite numerous reports and the precautionary evacuation of the Marino Hospital, the cause of the phenomenon has not yet been identified , and there is currently no official confirmation of its origin.

The emergency began in the late morning at the Marino Hospital in Cagliari, where the staff was evacuated as a precaution after reports of a strong smell of gas inside the facility .

Upon security's orders, those present were evacuated from the building and transferred to the outside courtyard. It was not necessary to transfer non-self-sufficient patients. The alarm was dismissed in less than twenty minutes , and staff were able to return to their offices and wards, allowing the morning's activities to continue as normal.

The reports weren't limited to the Marino area. At the same time , the odor was detected in numerous locations around Cagliari, from Quartu to Quartucciu, passing through Selargius, Settimo San Pietro, and Sinnai, raising questions about its actual origin.

Hundreds of reports were received by the Fire Department operations rooms, which responded to various locations in the metropolitan area—particularly in Quartu, where calls were most concentrated—searching for a possible leak or the source of the odor, which has not yet been identified. The CBRN (nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological) unit also had no response: the highly specialized Fire Department conducted instrumental checks with special detectors , which, once again, did not detect any gas in the air, other than its odor.

For now, therefore, the mystery remains open.

Meanwhile, the hospital is speaking of an episode handled "in an orderly fashion, without any alarmism," noting that the evacuation was adopted solely as a precautionary measure.
