Having left Cagliari and headed for Trapani, they began to take on water .
Two sailors were rescued yesterday by the Cagliari Coast Guard, which intervened approximately 30 miles southeast of the Sardinian capital .
On board the 10-meter vessel, flying the Polish flag, were two Italians, a man and a 36-year-old woman . At first light, they noticed that the vessel was taking on water and that the bilge pumps were unable to handle the incoming flow.
Hence the request for assistance was made to the Cagliari Coast Guard, which immediately dispatched the patrol boat CP320. The Coast Guard personnel, having also noted that the leak had caused the engine to fail , took the vessel's crew aboard and assumed command.
He then managed the leak using the pumps supplied to the patrol boat and, in order to preserve the safety of the crew and prevent a risk of environmental pollution, he assisted the vessel towards the tourist port of Villasimius , where it arrived after approximately 3 and a half hours of navigation.
An intervention that, in addition to rescuing two people, helped prevent the environmental damage that would have resulted from the sinking of the vessel.
