Hiding a GPS in a car to track its position and follow its path "is not a criminal offense by law" .

Outcome of the trial in Cagliari of the former regional councilor of Forza Italia Onorio Petrini , 74, who for having placed a device of that kind under the vehicle of his ex-girlfriend was accused of "Installation of equipment designed to intercept or prevent communications or conversations telegraphic or telephone ".

But the single judge considered the behavior not punishable , as already requested by the defense lawyer Massimiliano Ravenna according to which the violation of the law would be configurable only if the locator was able to intercept or prevent conversations or telephone communications between people other than the suspect.

The device had been found under the floor of the car by mechanics of a workshop to which the owner of the car had turned after an accident and Petrini himself had admitted to the carabinieri that he had placed the GPS. The procedure that ended yesterday with the acquittal was born.
