He intervened to evacuate families inside a building, suffering from smoke inhalation. This is what happened to an officer of the Oristano Flying Squad, following a fire that broke out late yesterday evening on the third floor of a building on Via Carducci . He is expected to require seven days of medical treatment.

The alarm was raised at 10:30 PM on Monday by a passerby who noticed smoke and flames coming from a window of the house. In addition to the Flying Squad, three fire engines were also deployed: the latter worked to put out the flames, while officers simultaneously entered the building, from which, meanwhile, cries for help were coming .

The fire raged for about an hour, and heavy, acrid smoke enveloped the entire home, necessitating a complete evacuation. Each apartment was searched, floor by floor, across all eight floors of the building. A total of 20 families were evacuated . Among them were several elderly people, who were escorted out of the building by rescuers, including a deaf woman who hadn't realized what was happening and was carried out by the two officers.
