The GNV Azzurra ship was towed to Porto Torres after a fire broke out in its engine room off the coast of Senetosa, in southern Corsica . CorseMatin and other French media reported. The flames were quickly extinguished, and none of the 876 people on board, including 673 passengers and the remaining crew, were injured. The ship was en route between Sardinia and Genoa.

Four specialists from SIS 2A (South Corsica Fire Brigade) were on board to monitor the situation and secure the area. Their thermal imaging measurements confirmed there was no risk of the fire reigniting.

The vessel, which was deprived of propulsion following the accident, was finally towed this morning, around 6:30, to the port of Porto Torres.

The case is under the jurisdiction of the French maritime authorities in conjunction with the operations center of the Rome Coast Guard.
