Regionals, Alessandra Todde: «I am the first female president of Sardinia»
After hours of photo-finish scrutiny, the Campo Largo forward candidate on Truzzu breaks the deadlock in the headquarters in Via Dante in Cagliari«I am the first female president of the Sardinia Region». The candidate of the Campo largo M5s-Pd Alessandra Todde, even if the data are not yet definitive, now seems to have prevailed over the center-right candidate and mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu after a very long day in which they competed until the last vote. With the counting almost completed, he is at 45.4%, Truzzu at 45%.
With the operations starting at 7 in the morning and continuing throughout the day with exasperating slowness , late at night Todde showed up at her headquarters in via Dante in Cagliari, making her way through a crowd of militants and supporters: «I am the first president woman of the Sardinia region". And she is also the first exponent of the Five Star Movement to conquer an Italian region ever.
«I am very happy, very proud. Today we can write an important page for Sardinia", he said again. After a few minutes, she was joined by the M5s leader Giuseppe Conte and the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein, who had rushed to Cagliari in the afternoon.
«This is a victory for the Sardinians», commented Schlein. « A victory for this extraordinary candidate, who ran a splendid campaign and gives hope to her wonderful land . And it is a victory for this coalition: many would not have thought that we would get this far. The result confirms a choice developed in the area, without difficulty: the esteem for Alessandra was born well before this candidacy. And now the wind changes." For Conte «a great job has been done to develop a serious project for the Sardinians and I am very happy for the citizens . In future perspective it gives us hope: when there is a serious project, with the reference communities, surprising results can be obtained compared to expectations".
Todde conquered the big cities, Cagliari, Sassari and Quartu, and won overwhelmingly in his native Nuoro ( I DATA ) ; for Truzzu the defeat in the capital which he has governed since July 2019 was very heavy , while he won in the centre-right strongholds, Olbia with Gallura, Oristano but also Alghero.
Renato Soru of the Sardinian Coalition remains below 9% : the former governor remains out of the Regional Council due to the barrier provided by the Sardinian electoral law (10% for coalitions and 5% for individual lists). The fourth candidate, Lucia Chessa of Sardegna R-esiste, stopped at 1%.
