The woman found dead on Saturday in Rome's Villa Pamphili park along with what DNA later revealed to be her six-month-old daughter now has a name.
An important turning point in the mystery that could lead to the identification of the person responsible for the death of the little girl, who showed signs of strangulation and bruises on her body as well as signs of malnutrition.
The circle seems to be tightening also on the identity of the killer after the work done to identify the girl, about 1.60 meters tall, with fair skin and blonde hair.
The Police Headquarters has specified that they are examining all the reports that arrived even after the diffusion of the photos of the large tattoos found on the victim's body.
The investigators worked on some artifacts found a short distance from the site of the discovery, including the remains of a tent, similar to those provided by associations that deal with homeless people.
Perhaps thanks to this piece of the puzzle and the testimonies collected, it was possible to trace the "couple" - mother and daughter - who had been living inside the park for a few days. With them, as reported by some witnesses, there was also a man who was seen by a group of boys and a woman the evening before the discovery with a bundle in his arms a short distance from where the little girl's lifeless body was abandoned.
According to investigators, the woman may have given birth abroad and then reached Italy, perhaps on a bus. The autopsy confirmed that the mother was breastfeeding the baby, who, however, had a completely empty stomach at the time of death. The mother's death dates back to at least five days before, if not seven.
Her body, naked and covered by a plastic bag and in an advanced state of decomposition, had been brought and left in that spot in the park by someone, perhaps the same person who then decided to kill the little girl. Histological tests should provide elements on the causes of the 30-year-old's death: violent aggression and overdose have been ruled out. Investigators do not rule out that death could have been due to natural causes. Then the little girl, left at the mercy of that still unknown man who is now being tracked down, also died.
