A 74-year-old woman, Maddalena Tanzi, died of intoxication in the bathroom of her house in Bari due to illness after inhaling toxic substances.

The episode took place on the afternoon of Thursday 13 April, the police investigations then ascertained the reason for what happened in the apartment in via Guglielmo Appulo, in the Japigia district.

The elderly woman, according to what was reconstructed by the investigators, mixed two detergents - most likely bleach and ammonia - to free the shower pipes. A lethal mix, which created a toxic cloud that made the woman collapse to the ground, causing her death .

The findings of the agents exclude that the death was caused by a fall and there are no injuries on the woman's body.

The woman's husband managed to escape the terrible domestic accident. The man called for help, shortly after he too felt ill and fell hitting his head : taken to hospital, his life is not in danger. The same 118 agents and operators who intervened after entering the bathroom felt ill .
