Ultras clashes for Lecce-Roma, nine officers injured: "Enough, the State has failed"

"What happened last night in Lecce is yet another demonstration of how the police forces are left alone to deal with violence that is now systematic and unpunished."
Domenico Pianese, General Secretary of the Police Union Coisp, stated this, commenting on the serious clashes that occurred at the end of the Lecce-Roma match. "The day after we find ourselves, once again, counting the injured: 9 police officers from the Taranto Mobile Unit reported prognoses of 3 to 8 days after being hit by firecrackers and objects thrown by the usual criminals disguised as fans who continue to act undisturbed", continues Pianese.
"The Department was guarding a buffer zone between the visiting fans and the local one, when a group of Lecce ultras attempted to break through the cordon to reach the Roma fans, attacking the officers. The truth is clear: those who wear a uniform have become the target of violence, we cannot and must not resign ourselves to this drift. We are tired of having to witness, every time, colleagues who end up in hospital just for doing their duty. Urgent and concrete measures are needed: a lifetime Daspo for those who attack a police officer, certain penalties, adequate tools and the launch of the Security Bill, stuck for too many months in the limbo of the Parliamentary Commissions. Politics cannot continue to look the other way because if those who wear a uniform have become the object of systematic attacks by those who challenge the State, then it is clear that the system has failed. And we can no longer accept this", concludes Pianese.
