Two people are under investigation for the death of skier Matilde Lorenzi, who died in hospital on October 28, 2024, the day after a fall during training in Val Senales, South Tyrol.
The news, first reported by the Corriere della Sera newspaper, has been confirmed by the Bolzano Public Prosecutor's Office, which, in a statement, emphasizes that those under investigation include "the person responsible for safety on the ski slopes and ski lifts of the 'Alpin Arena Senales' ski area and the coach and trainer of the giant slalom training slope called Grawand G1, where Matilde Lorenzi was training."
The note also adds that " the entire file from the Fisi Federal Prosecutor's Office has also been acquired , concluded with a filing order due to the absence of unsportsmanlike conduct by Fisi members during the tragic event that affected the athlete Matilde Lorenzi."
The Prosecutor's Office "confirms that the proceedings were already closed in February 2025, following the filing of a brief produced by the injured parties (the young skier's family, ed.) with two attached reports (one medical-legal, according to which, in light of the medical documentation already acquired, the skier's death was not caused by a fall along the slope but by the subsequent impact against the raised edge of the slope , and one relating to any omitted safety measures that could have prevented the event from occurring) and the video recording of the accident."
The evidentiary incident, requested by the Prosecutor's Office, is currently underway , with all parties being cross-examined with their respective consultants, With two experts appointed by the investigating judge to "verify whether the cause of death can be determined following the athlete's initial fall along the track or the subsequent impact against the edge of the track; as well as to ascertain any negligence related to the failure to remove the curb at the edge of the track or, in any case, the failure to implement safety measures that could have prevented the event ," the Prosecutor's Office concludes.
