The escape of Filippo Turetta, the 22-year-old accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Giulia Cecchettin , his age, stopped after a week near Leipzig.

The young man, as far as we know, was stopped on Saturday evening after 10pm, while he was driving on the A9 motorway, near the town of Bud Durremberg . He had run out of petrol and had no money to refuel again: so he pulled over onto the emergency lane, and some motorists reported the presence of the vehicle with its lights off .

When he was checked by the German police "he approached the officers and allowed himself to be arrested without resisting". He appeared "tired and resigned" to the police, as if he were eager to hand himself over , the German authorities communicated to the Italian ones.

Before approaching him, the policemen checked the license plate and discovered that that car - the black Punto - was registered in the international cooperation circuit. According to what has been reconstructed so far, Turetta's car was traveling along the motorway in a southerly direction and not northerly, as it should have been if the Punto was coming from Italy . For this reason, the German police are carrying out a series of checks using cameras to see if the passage of the car was photographed in the Berlin area or in any case in northern Germany.

THE CRIME

Giulia Cecchettin's body was found on Saturday in a gully near Lake Barcis, in Friuli, a few hours before Turetta's arrest. According to the first incomplete autopsy tests, Giulia was already dead before ending up in the escarpment. Killed with stab wounds to the head and neck inflicted with great violence .

Filippo Turetta did not throw or drop Giulia's body from the road, but carried it down the cliff in his arms and placed it under a large rock . Finally, he covered it with some black bags that were found nearby.

Among the finds collected in the industrial area of Fossò, in the province of Venice, where Filippo Turetta killed Cecchettin, there is also a broken knife . The weapon was found immediately by investigators, in the first phase of the investigation, but the fact only became known today.

BLOOD MONEY

In the hands of the Venice Carabinieri who were looking for Turetta there was a video taken at a petrol station in Cortina. It dates back to Sunday morning: we see Filippo filling the tank. He pays in cash and then leaves. A few days later the owner of the plant opened the cash register and noticed that a 20 euro banknote had stains similar to blood . The man called the police and carabinieri of Belluno who acquired both the video surveillance images and the banknotes, now in the hands of the Venice investigators. The investigations will have to establish whether the blood on the money is Giulia's.

EXTRADITION IN 15 DAYS

On Sunday evening the judge of the district court of Halle and der Saale confirmed the pre-trial detention of Filippo Turetta, who was taken to a penitentiary in the city of Halle, the police said.

«I spoke today with Filippo's lawyer in Germany. He told me that during the validation hearing , Filippo's consent to the extradition was given , so the procedure should be accelerated compared to the fact that he had not given it, at least relatively. It will take about a fortnight for Filippo to arrive here in Italy ", confirmed to LaPresse the lawyer Emanuele Compagno, the lawyer of the 22-year-old accused of killing Giulia Cecchettin.
