The parents' association at the Daneo school in Genoa's historic center is launching a protest following the outcry over an anti-racist banner removed by police yesterday.

The online appeal calls for participation in a demonstration on Monday morning in Piazza della Meridiana, not far from the primary school, "to provide an initial response to what happened and to organize future protests." It also asks for banners to be hung from all windows. The parents cite Article 34 of the Constitution, which states that "school is open to all."

Yesterday, two plainclothes officers tore down the tarp bearing the slogan "No one is a stranger here," written in several languages. The work was carried out by children and teachers. According to the Police Headquarters, which has launched an internal investigation, it was an independent initiative following a report from the local police operations center.

Francesca Pastore, the association's lawyer and president, wrote to the police headquarters to request "an immediate report on the implementation" of the officers' intervention and a "copy of the authorization and the related report of the operations carried out."
