They mistook meningitis for back pain and headache . This is what is written in black and white in the medico-legal consultancy ordered by the Rome prosecutor's office on the death of 27-year-old Valeria Fioravanti , who died on 10 January. Three doctors are now under investigation for the death. The charge is manslaughter .

No precise diagnosis for the girl. According to the prosecutor's consultants, the disease that killed her was not recognized as they had not subjected her to any specific examination in the hospital, despite the clinical picture suggesting it. Same script in two hospitals, to which Fioravanti went to be examined in the throes of suffering. At the Casilino polyclinic she was diagnosed with a headache caused by an "incongruous" movement made while washing her hair. After a week, at San Giovanni Addolorata, another diagnosis: lumbar sciatica, to be treated with Toradol.

Two days after the last medical opinion, the situation worsened. Back at San Giovanni, a brain scan was done which revealed meningitis, now in the acute phase. Despite life-saving attempts, the young woman died on January 10.
