"Seeing him walking around while our daughter is no longer here is a disgrace, this is not justice."

Speaking is Fabrizio Preti, father of Erika, the 28-year-old girl who was killed on 11 June 2017 by her boyfriend Dimitri Fricano with 57 stab wounds while they were on holiday in San Teodoro , Sardinia.

Sentenced to 30 years in prison Fricano, now 37, was sent to house arrest because he is obese and smokes a lot, so he needs the necessary care. In November of last year the Surveillance Court ordered house arrest for medical reasons. And he can go out freely from 3 to 6 pm, he lives a stone's throw from the house of Erika Preti's parents , who often and willingly meet him.

" We've been running into him for a year now, even when he's out walking with his father or at the post office ," Fabrizio Preti said in an interview with Corriere della Sera. "It doesn't seem to me that he's doing that badly, he's only incompatible with prison, for everything else he can live his life normally. While we can only see our daughter at the cemetery." Moreover, he continues, " he's not losing weight and he's not getting better, his situation is the same as when he was transferred. He should go back to prison or to a facility ."

There were moments of tension: "In August," Preti says, " I met him and his father in the center of Biella, I lost my temper and insulted them. They even reported me ." Erika's parents are exasperated: "We fought to get justice and now we feel helpless, it will be a difficult Christmas, at any moment we could find ourselves facing our daughter's murderer ."

The parents ask that he at least be transferred to a facility where "they really treat him, because if he stays free he will never lose weight". After all, "why should he do that, since it would mean going back to prison?"
