The electronic prescription system , due to expire at the end of the year , has been extended, as loudly requested by the doctors. The government , in yesterday's meeting at Palazzo Chigi , included the postponement of the law in the Milleproroghe decree being examined by the Council of Ministers.
The measure, which allowed doctors to resort to the dematerialized prescription replacing the paper one, was contained in an ordinance linked to the pandemic. But, although there is no longer a state of emergency, the executive has decided to renew the possibility of using electronic prescriptions for a year. Patients can therefore avoid going physically to the doctor's office to collect the paper prescription and instead receive the number of the electronic one to be used to purchase the drugs.
"We are satisfied that the Government has accepted our request, extending the possibility of receiving medical prescriptions via email or text message by one year, inserting the rule in the Milleproroghe decree", writes Pina Onotri, Secretary General of the Italian Doctors Union (Smi ), who adds: "We are now awaiting further measures to free the doctors affiliated with the National Health Service from heavy bureaucratic burdens starting from the possibility of drastically reducing the waiting lines in the studies with a self-certification of the first three days of illness, above all for those non-objectifiable pathologies".
