No sign of brain metastasis at the time of Andrea Purgatori's death. These are the first conclusions of the consultants of the Rome Prosecutor's Office in the context of the complex autopsy activity arranged in the context of the open file on the journalist's death.

From the investigations it emerges "in agreement" that at the time of death, which occurred in July after a real ordeal that lasted a few months, there was no trace of tumor cells in the brain area. In the proceedings, initiated after a complaint from family members, Gianfranco Gualdi and Claudio di Biasi, two doctors who worked at a diagnostic facility in the capital, and who diagnosed the journalist with a form of brain tumor, were entered into the register of suspects for manslaughter . The work on the finds took place at the forensic medicine institute of the Tor Vergata Polyclinic after the samples taken during the first tranche of the autopsy examination carried out on 26 July.

At the end of the investigations, with the reports and opinions, the prosecutors of Piazzale Clodio will ask for an evidentiary hearing in order to crystallize as proof the results of the consultancy but also the first reports and in particular the x-rays on the basis of which the diagnosis was made and the consequent therapy which also included cycles of radiotherapy. The family members, assisted by the lawyers Alessandro and Michele Gentiloni Silveri, take note of the results of the autopsy, reiterating their trust "in the work of the judiciary, with the sole intention of having the truth of the events and any responsibilities ascertained".

It was they who asked the prosecutors, coordinated by the deputy Sergio Colaiocco, to clarify whether there had been errors in the diagnoses and treatments.

The Atlantis host's ordeal begins on April 24 when he goes to a private clinic to carry out checks, in light of a state of exhaustion. "The tests gave incorrect values" was the response, so much so that it was decided to proceed with a biopsy. An activity which is carried out in a specialized facility and the outcome is dramatic: a tumor form spread to various areas of the body, to the lungs and to the brain. This was communicated by one of the two doctors who later ended up in the register of suspects. Purgatori is then subjected to massive radiotherapy, which the journalist carries out in a third clinic. The conditions remain stable until mid-May so much so that the journalist continues to work on the broadcast of Atlantis. But then comes the worsening. In June he undergoes a CT scan in the first clinic he went to in April. Here comes a twist: no trace of metastases in the brain, only traces of cerebral ischemia. A situation also confirmed by a further examination carried out in another facility. The former Corriere della Sera journalist, however, continues to worsen. He is admitted to one of the capital's polyclinics: the first, dramatic diagnosis is confirmed to his family. After a few days he died.
