Given the media outcry surrounding recent judicial cases, currently under investigation and often commented on in aggressive and unsparing tones, it is the concern of the magistrates working in the juvenile courts, and in particular, in the Juvenile Court of L'Aquila and the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of L'Aquila, to affirm that every judicial initiative under their jurisdiction is inspired exclusively by the principles of protecting the rights of minors, as enshrined in the Constitution and in international law .
Thus in a joint statement the president of the Juvenile Court of L'Aquila, Cecilia Angrisano , and the Public Prosecutor, David Mancini , on the case of the "forest family" , at the centre of media attention following the decision to remove the mother and the beacon turned on by the Ministry of Justice, ready to send inspectors.
"Each juvenile proceeding," the L'Aquila Court explains, "includes assessment and verification periods aimed at identifying and ensuring the best interests of the minors involved . This determination also draws on the input of relevant specialist sciences and public services dedicated to the protection of minors."
"The difficult and delicate decisions in this area, particularly those involving the removal of minors from their families," the statement continues, " never arise from ideological or prejudicial positions against parents, but always aim to ensure the well-being of the minor, a person with rights." According to the two magistrates, "ensuring the child's proper development and the peaceful development of his or her personality is the guiding principle of the juvenile courts' judicial action, which is conducted with care, sensitive participation, and the involvement of collaborative adults."
"It is therefore hoped," the magistrates conclude, "that the community understands how respect for the private lives of those involved and all the institutions involved is essential to the best management of these painful human events. Juvenile justice authorities are institutionally responsible for making decisions that may be subject to review at subsequent levels of adjudication."
