Anti-terrorism operation by the Digos del Ros, coordinated by the Destructive Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bologna, against 18 people, suspected of being part of the "virtual network" of contacts of Abdessalem Lassoued, the man who - praising ISIS - opened fire with a Kalashnikov in Brussels last October, killing two people and wounding others.

Agents and soldiers carried out searches in the provinces of Bologna, Brescia, Como, Fermo, Ferrara, Lecco, Macerata, Teramo, Palermo, Perugia, Rome, Turin, Trento and Udine.

The people under investigation, all of North African origin, would be the contacts of the attacker - who lived in Italy between 2012 and 2016 - and through their social profiles they would have shared and disseminated content from Islamist extremist circles.

Previously other foreign citizens linked to Lassoued were removed from the national territory. Checks are underway to assess the position of these new 18 suspects.
