Stop harassing calls, even on cell phones. The decree signed by Sergio Mattarella last January 27 and which provides for the new register of oppositions, that is the list to register in order to avoid being tormented by wild telemarketing via mobile phones, comes into force tomorrow, April 13.

If the new register is open as of tomorrow, the service will be active on August 1st: the deadline for completing the operations is set for July 31st.

Three phases are the phases in which, in detail, the path is divided: on April 28 the Ministry of Economic Development will have to consult the consumer associations and those of the operators. Then the Ministry will then have a month (by May 28) to issue a new decree that sets the technical requirements for managers to provide fixed numbers to the opposition register. Finally, by July 27, the Mise will have to prepare the technical and operational procedures for registration in the Register by consumers.

According to article 7 of the decree, the consumer can subscribe to the new register asking that the numbering of which he is the holder is not considered for the purposes of commercial communication, direct sales through an operator or even for automated call systems or calls without an operator.

Registration in the register is free of charge by filling in a web form on the manager's website, or by calling a number or by e-mail.

Companies and telemarketing companies are required to verify that their contact lists are not entered in the register, and must provide the list of numbers they intend to contact. In case of violation of the law, fines of up to 20 million euros will be imposed for telemarketing companies, for companies up to 4% of annual turnover.

The controls and sanctions will be triggered by the consumer's complaint to the Privacy Guarantor.
