Ten hours of anguish, then the positive epilogue for a speleologist from Vicenza who was injured and trapped yesterday afternoon in the bowels of a cave on Monte Faedo, in Veneto, which he was exploring with two other companions.

The man, a 41-year-old from Schio (Vicenza), was reached around midnight on Saturday by the rescue teams, around twenty men mobilized by speleo delegations from all over Northern Italy, and guided along a difficult ascent.

Throughout the journey, the 41-year-old was assisted by a doctor and a nurse. Once we reached the exit of the cave, it was possible to ascertain that the injured man's condition was not very serious.

Although he initially lost consciousness, the man was able to walk, albeit with difficulty; this avoided the use of explosives, which the rescue teams had brought in case it was necessary to unblock the narrowest passages, to get a stretcher through.
