The start of the new school year is approaching for Italy's nearly seven million students—from preschool to high school—and one million teachers.

The first lessons will be held in the autonomous province of Bolzano on Monday, September 8th; two days later, it will be the turn of the autonomous province of Trento, Piedmont, Veneto, and Valle d'Aosta; on September 11th, for students and teachers from Friuli Venezia Giulia; and on September 12th, for those from Lombardy.

Most regional councils have instead decided that school will start on Monday, September 15 : this date has been set by Abruzzo, Basilicata, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Marche, Molise, Sardinia , Sicily, Tuscany and Umbria.

The last to return to class, on September 16th, will be students and teachers from Puglia and Calabria.
