Son: "Pfizer's anti-Covid pills are coming, 600 thousand treatments within the year"
The first tranche of 11,200 treatments will arrive as early as next week
Yesterday the Commissioner Structure, in agreement with the Ministry of Health, finalized a contract with Pfizer for the supply of 600 thousand complete treatments of the Paxovid antiviral pill for the entire year 2022.

The distribution of the first tranche of the drug, equal to 11,200 treatments, will take place in the first week of February and will be distributed to the Regions according to the indications of the Ministry of Health and Aifa. The further treatments provided for in the contract will arrive later.
The medicine is recommended for the treatment of Covid in adults who do not need supplemental oxygen and are at high risk of the disease becoming serious.
In the studies taken into consideration, the treatment with Paxlovid has significantly reduced hospitalizations or deaths in patients who have at least one condition that puts them at risk of serious Covid. But therapy must be done before conditions worsen.
Most of the patients in the study were infected with the Delta variant, but based on laboratory studies the pill is expected to work against Omicron and other variants as well. The safety profile, Ema notes, was favorable and side effects were generally mild.
