Premeditation, snare and futile reasons charged against Zakaria Atqaoui, the 23-year-old who confessed to having killed his ex-girlfriend, Sofia Castelli, in the early hours of July 29 in the house of her parents, in Cologno Monzese ( Milan).
According to the investigating judge, the crime did not happen suddenly, by impetus: for this reason, not only are there the aggravating circumstance of premeditation and that of futile reasons for jealousy, but also the "insidious means", that of stalking in sleep , which in essence it prevented any possible defense of the victim.
Sofia slept in the master bedroom because she had given her room to her friend Aurora, with whom she had been to the disco. It is likely that she woke up and attempted a defense, also because the 23-year-old also had scratches on his face when he turned himself in that he was unable to explain, compatible with a desperate attempt at a reaction.
Zakaria Atqaoui told the investigating judge that he had hit her "three times on the neck" but after the first blow he would not remember anything else until he saw himself bleeding out of the room. The coroner found wounds to the face and neck on the body.
The young man, who had entered the house thanks to a set of keys taken secretly the day before, had hidden himself with a knife taken from the kitchen in the closet, but then he would go to change it when she was already asleep because it was serrated and with a sharp blade. blunt : he would have changed it, in those hours of disturbing nocturnal waiting, hidden, to get "a more suitable one". This is a detail yet to be framed, given that perhaps he could have brought that knife from outside, even if he says he got it in the kitchen.
Three knives were found in the house: one under the victim's body, on the bed, one in the wardrobe, the one that the confessed offender allegedly "changed because it was not suitable" and one in the kitchen sink. Also found were his clothes stained with blood, which he had taken off and changed into clothes belonging to Castelli's father before leaving the house and going to make up after a while, still with a "bloody face and arms".
"Zakaria at all costs wanted to rekindle the relationship with Sofia, he was very possessive, jealous, he was always on her," said Aurora, the friend who did not notice anything until the Carabinieri arrived at the house. She and the other girl with whom Sofia had been in the disco confirmed the scenario of stalking, continuous messages, even aggressive attitudes towards other boys they knew, in the context of a relationship that had lasted "for about five years between ups and downs" with Sofia who for three years wanted to leave him because "she couldn't take it anymore" but then "after a few months they got back together".
