She gave birth in the bathroom of some friends' house and then allegedly pushed the baby, who was born alive, into the toilet.

It happened on the outskirts of Rome. The woman, a twenty-nine year old of Nigerian origins , was arrested in recent days by the police who executed a detention order in prison.

The baby's body was found in a manhole connected to the house's sewer pipes. The woman's other two children were entrusted to relatives.

The investigations by investigators from the Rome Flying Squad and the Frascati police station, coordinated by the Velletri Prosecutor's Office, began following a report from doctors at the emergency room where the 29-year-old had gone in October following an illness, denying having given birth.

According to the reconstruction, the young woman, in the 25th/26th week of pregnancy, would have induced the birth while she was in the bathroom of some friends' house in Montecompatri. Then she would have forcibly pushed the newborn into the toilet pipes. Further confirmation would have come from DNA tests on the newborn's little body later found in a manhole.

The woman was tracked down by the police after several days of searching in the Finocchio area, on the outskirts of Rome. She is now in Rebibbia prison.
