Lupa, Silanus and Orune rejoice at the Palio di Siena dedicated to the Madonna dell'Assunta. In Piazza del Campo Dino Pes “Velluto”, the oldest jockey at 44, leads Benitos, an Anglo-Arab debutant bred by the Chessa brothers from Orune, to success. Lupa had not won in six years. Dino Pes had not competed in the Palio for seven years and despite having won several times in Legnano and Asti he had never tasted success in the most famous bareback race in the world.
At the start, given after many failed alignments, Dino Pes on Benitos immediately took the lead of the race, chased in vain by Selva who had been lucky enough to have Tabacco, the winning horse in July, ridden by debutant Andrea Sanna and by Oca represented by Carlo “Brigante” Sanna, winner in July, this time riding Ares Alce, then overtaken by Chiocciola of the Giuseppe Zedde-Comancio duo.
The Palio di Siena confirmed all the passion and spectacularity and the postponement to today after the cancellation due to rain yesterday has only exacerbated the wait that lasted three quarters of an hour before the valid start.
