"I apologize for something unforgivable."
This was said today in the courtroom, during the first hearing of the trial, by Alessandro Maja, the interior designer who between 3 and 4 May 2022 killed his wife Stefania Pivetta, his sixteen-year-old daughter Giulia and seriously injured his eldest son in the house in Samarate Nicholas , 23 years old.
The man, I confess, is on trial in Busto Arsizio, in the province of Varese.
At today's hearing also Nicolò , in a wheelchair after a long period in the hospital, in the courtroom with his uncles and grandfather: «I can't feel hatred towards him, but I think forgiveness at this moment is difficult ».
The young man wore, as at other times in recent months, a shirt with the face of his mother and sister. «I am emotionally tired – the boy only added -. I still don't have an exhaustive answer as to the reason for the massacre.
That dramatic night Alessandro Maja grabbed a hammer and killed his sleeping wife and daughter , then wounded Nicolò who, awakened by screams or noises, avoided the fatal blow. Maja father then tried to kill himself by setting himself on fire, without success.
A few days after the crime, Piera Bossi tried to explain the murders to the investigating judge of Busto Arsizio with «an obsession with debts. I felt like a failure, responsible for not being able to guarantee the same standard of living for the family in the future, but I don't know why I acted like this».
