Regional elections in Campania, Puglia, and Veneto ended 2-1 for the center-left, as expected.
CAMPANIA – In Campania, Campo Largo candidate Roberto Fico has surpassed 60% of the vote, compared to approximately 35% for center-right candidate Edmondo Cirielli. This unbridgeable gap has the center-left jubilant, particularly the Five Star Movement, which posted a photo on social media with Fico and Alessandra Todde with the message: "How proud our two regional presidents are!"
"Sardinia and now Campania: for the M5S, this is a historic double: two regional governors in two years, when we've never had one before. This gives us even more strength and courage: we will fight tooth and nail to change things in our country," wrote Five Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte on social media, also slamming the center-right for their impromptu "dance" at the campaign's closing rally: "Now they're not jumping around anymore."
"Thank you to all the citizens of Campania for a clear, strong, and important choice that fills us with responsibility," Fico said at the press conference celebrating the success.
"The outgoing coalition won the elections, and Fico will be the new President of the Region. As a lover of my homeland, I can only heartily wish the future President Fico success," said center-right candidate Cirielli, admitting defeat.
PUGLIA – In Puglia, too, the center-left candidate, Antonio Decaro, immediately gained a commanding lead over center-right candidate Luigi Lobuono , receiving approximately 65%. "I acknowledge the choice of the Apulian voters, and I extend my congratulations to the Honorable Antonio Decaro, who will become the next governor of the Puglia region. I called him to offer my congratulations," Lobuono said while the vote count was still underway, also admitting defeat.
VENETO – The result was also very large in Veneto, with Alberto Stefani, candidate of the centre-right, at 64%, and Giovanni Manildo , candidate of the centre-left, which stopped below 30%.
"Thank you, Venetians! I was deeply moved to have the honor of representing you," were the first words of Stefani, the new governor . "I feel a strong responsibility and also great energy," Stefani added. "I want to be clear: I will put people's needs first and will be president for everyone, even those who didn't vote for me."
THE PRIME MINISTER – "Alberto Stefani will be the new President of the Veneto Region. A victory that is the fruit of the work, credibility, and seriousness of our coalition . My congratulations and best wishes to him for the challenges that await him," commented Prime Minister and FdI leader Giorgia Meloni on social media. "Congratulations also to Antonio Decaro in Puglia and Roberto Fico in Campania on their election . May they carry out their mandates to the fullest, in the interests of the citizens they will represent," added the Prime Minister in her post.
SCHLEIN – "United, we not only win, we win by a landslide. Redemption starts in the South. A clear signal also in view of the upcoming political elections." Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein commented on the center-left's victories in Puglia and Campania. The Democratic Party leader also stated: "The real defeat today is Giorgia Meloni , defeated in Campania, Puglia, and even Veneto, where the FdI hoped to overtake the League, but it didn't happen."
VOTER TURNOUT IN FALL – This round of elections also saw a new drop in voter turnout : in Campania, 44% of eligible voters cast their ballots (compared to 55.5% in the previous elections), in Puglia, 41.8% (it was 56.4%), and in Veneto, 44.6% (61.1%).
