An evening like many others , spent at home waiting for the return of mum and dad , Romanian seasonal workers in Ponza, one of the islands besieged by tourists in the summer, turned into a nightmare for a 16 year old girl .
A 34-year-old man from Rome , who had also recently arrived on the island to work as a seasonal waiter, allegedly abused the little girl .
According to what the investigators reconstructed, it was around 7pm when the girl left the house for a moment, probably to throw away the rubbish, and found herself confronted by the man, who forced her to return to the house and the he raped .
After having suffered violence, the shocked girl found the strength to track down her mother and told her everything: it was the woman who called the police to report her daughter's rape.
According to what we understand, the family had arrived from Romania just a few days ago, so much so that the victim does not speak Italian but still managed to tell what happened in her own language and to provide useful details to the investigators who immediately set out on the trail of the man.
In a short time the police managed to identify the 34-year-old, already burdened by several criminal records, who had rented a house with two other tenants right next to that of the victim's family, and discovered that he had not exceeded the period of try it in a restaurant.
When he was tracked down by the military, the man was completely drunk. A ban was issued against him from the island of Ponza and the Cassino Prosecutor's Office reported him for aggravated sexual assault: the 34-year-old is now under investigation but at large .
However, investigations are still underway to clarify all the details of the matter .
Meanwhile, the girl was immediately transferred by air ambulance to the Santa Maria Goretti hospital in Latina and is now in a protected facility in the capital.
The episode has shocked the island, which has been overrun by holidaymakers in recent days. «Our feeling - says the mayor Franco Ambrosino - is of closeness to the girl and her family for this very ugly story of violence. We know that a lot of people pass through Ponza in the summer, even of dubious origins, and this saddens us."
