With the money intended for children with cancer, he paid for trips to "his" Sardinia and beyond. Shopping at the supermarket, the bill from the mechanic to repair the car.

The investigation by the Padua public prosecutor's office involving Chiara Girello Azzena, president of "Team for Children", a non-profit organization that has been supporting the projects of the Pediatric Oncohematology Clinic for years, a regional health jewel, is causing quite a stir.

Azzena is a familiar face of solidarity, in the front row of every initiative for children with cancer, often alongside the highest authorities.

She was entered in the register of suspects by prosecutor Sergio Dini after the prosecutor had received a very detailed complaint with all the personal expenses that the president would have made with the funds of the association, intended for children with cancer.

Accusations to prove: she, when questioned, denied everything. Now the investigation has come to a close and the prosecutor's decision on any request for indictment is awaited. The disputed expenses amount to tens of thousands of euros, among the most recurring those of the numerous trips to Sardinia, to be precise to Golfo degli Aranci, where he is a resident. Right here the Guardia di Finanza searched his villa.

As for the expenses at the supermarket, Azzena would have justified them by saying that the food was intended not for children but for needy families. Prosecutors also targeted a bill from a mechanic for car repairs.

The non-profit organization received donations to finance projects such as the school for children hospitalized in Pediatric Oncohematology. Not just money, for example a well-known household appliance company had given away a lot of modern air conditioners: some of these were found and seized by the Guardia di Finanza in the homes of some relatives of Azzena.
