An appeal by Cagliari students to stop the war in Gaza ends up on the benches of Montecitorio .

Democratic Party MP Laura Boldrini read in the Chamber the letter from the students of the Antonio Cima middle school in Cagliari , which is part of the Santa Caterina Comprehensive Institute.

A direct appeal to the deputies: "We write to express our sadness for what is happening to the populations affected by war. In particular, we hear the cries of pain of the inhabitants of Gaza," the children write, who then explain that they have studied "civics, history, geography," the main political institutions such as "the European Union and the UN," and several international conventions.

"Everything we are learning," it reads, "is being denied, contradicted, and negated by what is happening in neighboring countries. This is why we feel confused, helpless, and lost."

"At school," the young people continue, "we reflected a lot: it's inhumane to see so many human beings being left to starve to death. The 27 states of the European Union can make a huge contribution to resolving this tragedy and saving the lives of so many. Let's try to imagine what we'll be learning in our history books ten years from now: that we European citizens, represented by the European Union, didn't lift a finger to stop the massacres of thousands of children? Will we read that we didn't fully commit to applying the principles and values of justice, peace, and solidarity on which our European society is founded?"
