The Onda contrada won the first race in the run-up to the Palio di Siena on August 16th . Selva got off to a good start and held the lead until the second Casato bend, before handing it over to Onda, who finished in first place at the end of the third lap.

The horse-jockey pairings decided yesterday afternoon after the horses were assigned to the districts were made official : Sebastiano Murtas known as Grandine on Canarinu in the Selva, Giuseppe Zedde known as Gingillo on Donrodrigo in the Torre, Andrea Sanna known as Virgola on Viso d'Angelo in the Onda, Elias Mannucci known as Turbine on Euskaldi in the Giraffa, Giovanni Atzeni known as Tittia on Anda and Bola in the Nicchio, Carlo Sanna known as Brigante on Benitos in the L'Aquila, Jonatan Bartoletti known as Scompiglio on Arestetulesu in the Chiocciola, Dino Pes known as Velluto on Diodoro in the Lupa, Michel Putzu known as Spago on Diamante Sauro in the Oca and Federico Guglielmi known as Tamurè on Ares Elce in the Istrice.
