The presence of dioxins in the air in some areas of Palermo is 35 times higher than the maximum values allowed after the fire that broke out last July 24 in the Bellolampo landfill.

The shock data was provided by Arpa Sicilia which carried out the new sampling tests of the environment.

In via Inserra the first figure recorded on 24 July was 939 grams per cubic metre. After 300 the alarm goes off. Now that of 25 July near Villa delle Ginestre in via Castellana, in the Borgo Nuovo district, rises to 3,531 grams per cubic metre. The sampling duration was 48 hours.

In a second area of Palermo affected by the dioxin alarm, in via Costantino, on the north-western outskirts of the city, the value is instead almost within the norm: 116 per cubic metre.

On 30 July, after the first results of the analyses, the mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla issued an ordinance ordering for 15 days to wash the fruit well and eat it without peel, do not eat meat, dairy products and eggs, avoid and fodder in an area of 4 km where ARPA has found the presence of dioxins produced by the fire in the Bellolampo landfill.
