Over a million Italians are positive for Covid. Which, calculating a dozen close contacts for each positive, would mean ten million Italians in quarantine, if only the changes on the isolation of vaccinated close contacts had not been approved. The records of infections recorded in recent days push the government towards the introduction of the obligation of the Super Green pass at work, a decision that could be taken as early as January 5.

ELEVEN YELLOW REGIONS - With hospital pressure increasing day by day, more than half of Italy is in the yellow zone. After the ordinance of the Ministry of Health, starting from Monday Lombardy, Piedmont, Lazio and Sicily are added to Calabria, Friuli, Liguria, Marche, Veneto, the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano. Nothing changes from the point of view of the rules: the outdoor mask must also be worn in the white area and the limit of 4 people at restaurant tables has fallen, all you need is the super green pass.

THE DATA - Never since the beginning of the pandemic had there been more than one million currently positive. The surge in cases mainly concerns the under 19s, while the vaccination campaign records a stalemate with regard to the first doses: in a week only 122 thousand were administered - excluding the 5-11 year olds -, with 5.5 million Italians still not covered by any dose.

26% of total cases are of school age: of these, 48% are in the 6-11 age group, 36% between 12-19 years and only 11% and 5% respectively between 3 and 5 years and under 3 years.

To date, the employment rate of intensive care is 12.9% (with 10 regions over 10%) and that of medical areas at 17.1%. The incidence has more than doubled in seven days, from 351 cases per 100,000 inhabitants last week to 783 in the one that is about to end.

VACCINES - They are the only barrier to the spread of the virus and the occupation of hospitals. At the moment the highest number of unvaccinated is in the 40-49 age group (1,202,480) and in the 50-59 age group (1,021,601). In the range between 12 and 19 years, the boys without any dose are 818,816.

The validity of the vaccine is still confirmed by the data provided by the ISS according to which those over 80 without a dose have a risk of hospitalization eight times higher than the vaccinated complete for at least 120 days and 41 times higher than those vaccinated with boosters. Photocopy numbers on the death rates of the same group: the unvaccinated are at risk of dying nine times more than those vaccinated with a full cycle within 150 days and 56 times more than those vaccinated with a booster dose.

SUPER PASS TO WORK - It is the missing piece of Draghi's plan, which he wanted to insert already in the decree approved on December 30th but was stopped by the vetoes of Lega and Movimento 5 Stelle.

Discussion only postponed, because the requirement for a reinforced certificate for all workers could be imposed as early as 5 January. Especially in light of the data of the last few days. Italia Viva, Pd and Forza Italia agree, we must overcome the resistance of M5S and, above all, of the League.

While the pressure on compulsory vaccination tout court grows, a path that the government does not want to take at the moment.
