«November 4th celebrates National Unity and honors the Armed Forces, whose exploits have contributed to making Italy an independent, free nation, inspired by democratic values and peace».
Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in the message sent to the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto. "Today, the Republic looks with respect and devotion to the path that, from the Risorgimento to the First World War, to the Liberation, to the choice of European and Atlantic solidarity, has been able to build a cohesive, united country, bearer of values of peace in the international community" added Mattarella, noting that "the Italian Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza are today placed in defense of the freedoms of Italian society, of the institutions desired by the sovereign people to protect the rights of each citizen, operating, on the national territory, in conjunction with the Police forces. A burdensome task, in an international context full of tensions that have worsened after the aggression of the Russian Federation to the independence of Ukraine".
The Head of State also had a thought for the UNIFIL mission, which also includes the soldiers of the Sassari Brigade, deployed in Lebanon: «A special thought goes to our soldiers deployed in the Middle East where, by mandate of the United Nations and in the context of bilateral missions, they continue to ensure their contribution to maintaining peace, alleviating the suffering of the defenseless population in a dramatic humanitarian situation, promoting respect for international humanitarian law».
The Head of State finally remembered the fallen whose "memory sounds like an exhortation to the civil conscience of the country, especially to the younger generations, so that they know how to follow the path of commitment to defend the values of the Constitution".
