Trento remains in the center-left . The outgoing mayor, Franco Ianeselli, is in fact heading towards reconfirmation with over 54% of the consensus (with 93 sections counted out of 98), substantially doubling the center-right candidate Ilaria Goio who stopped at 25.4%.
The Democratic Party confirmed its position as the leading party in the capital (24.8% of the votes), while Brothers of Italy reached 14.3% and the League stopped at 4.3%.
"I am satisfied, because a reconfirmation in the first round in a city that is experiencing great changes is not a given" were the words of Franco Ianeselli at Palazzo Geremia , speaking to journalists. "Having spoken to the city and having demonstrated seriousness and courage, I believe that this has been rewarded".
In Bolzano, on the other hand, there will be a run-off on May 18th between the outgoing municipal councilor Juri Andriollo (27.3%) and, for the center-right, Claudio Corrarati (36.3%), who for many years was the head of the Alto Adige CNA.
Once again, there was a collapse in voter turnout at the polling stations that closed yesterday evening at 10 pm for the renewal of mayors, city councils and districts of 111 municipalities in the province of Bolzano and 154 in that of Trento. In Trentino, turnout was around 54.5% against over 64% in the previous elections (in Trento it is below 50%) while in the province of Bolzano it slightly exceeded 52% against 60% in 2020.
