A newborn baby died shortly after a Guardia di Finanza patrol boat landed in Lampedusa, bringing 55 migrants rescued at sea to port. The death occurred during the emergency transfer to the outpatient clinic.

According to reports, at 4:30 am, after being rescued by the Guardia di Finanza patrol boat V1307 on the island's Favarolo pier, 55 people originally from Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Nigeria and Sierra Leone landed.

Among them were seven women and six minors. The newborn baby was found to be in critical condition and, along with her mother, was transferred to the outpatient clinic, where doctors pronounced her dead. The baby died of hypothermia.
