"Italy will undertake to stop the trafficking of human lives in every place". Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this in the Chamber during communications to Parliament in view of the next European Council.

"At the meeting - explained the Prime Minister - the theme of migration will be central" and "a signal is needed to consolidate the agreement reached at the Internal Affairs and Justice Council on the proposals aimed at overcoming the Dublin rules, rules which, they are considered outdated but for nations like ours they even become dangerous and expose us to irregular flows” of migrants.

Still on the subject of immigration, «we are beginning to understand that if we want to address the root of the problem of migration , we must address the issue of the development of Africa . A vast region that possesses resources, starting from energy resources, which are crucial for Europe, which however should go above all to the benefit of the peoples who hold them».

"The goal - he added - is to guarantee lasting prosperity, peace and friendship with a model of cooperation that must be equal, not predatory".

On Ukraine and the conflict with Russia , Meloni instead explained: «The defense of security and freedom cannot disregard the strategic partnership between the EU and NATO . In view of the NATO summit in Vilnius, a working meeting with the NATO secretary general Stoltenberg is scheduled tomorrow before the start of the Council's work».

And again: "If we hadn't helped the Ukrainians, as some in this House also suggest, we would find ourselves in a world where the force of law is replaced by the law of the strongest, a world with no rules other than that of arms". "We need a just and lasting peace in the full right of Ukraine to its self-determination and we are working in every office towards this goal", concluded Meloni.
