With the arrival of the great heat, the controversy over masks at school breaks out, which are mandatory until the end of the school year. The Undersecretary for Education Rossano Sasso and the leader of the Lega Matteo Salvini ask for a stop.

"It is not a political question", decides the science, replies the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza . For Sasso, also a League member, eliminating the obligation would be "a measure of common sense for the last part of the school year". And Salvini increases the dose: “ More than 30 degrees in class and the obligation to wear a mask for hours even sitting at the desk? It doesn't make sense, let's change this unnecessarily punitive rule ”.

These are evaluations "that our scientific community must make, they have never been political choices, they are technical choices that must be evaluated as such ", replies Speranza .

For Matteo Bassetti "it is not a scientific decision, we remain the only country or one of the few with compulsory schooling". “Why is Italy the most conservative and retrograde country on the obligation of the mask ? I honestly don't know. Other countries no longer use it at school, at the theater, at the cinema, on airplanes. And with us, on the other hand, we continue undaunted ".

Undersecretary for Health Andrea Costa did not join the controversy and reiterated that we are heading for " a summer without restrictions ". While from the virologist Fabrizio Pregliasco comes a nefarious forecast: "We need to plan and then not find ourselves in difficulty, preparing for the worst scenario with 200 thousand cases of Covid a day in autumn".
