They died on the same day , twelve hours apart and a thousand kilometers apart.

This is the tragic fate of Mariano and Giuseppe Ferranti , 84-year-old twins from Campobello di Licata, in the Agrigento area.

The first died on Sunday morning in Reggio Emilia where for over twenty years he was marshal major of the Carabinieri at the provincial command of the Arma. He had been hospitalized for days in the Santa Maria Nuova hospital for an infection .

The second, who had been battling cancer for some time, died shortly afterwards, in the afternoon, in Agrigento , the city where he was parish priest in the church of the Beata Vergine Mediatrice as well as co-director of the newspaper "L'amico del popolo" and writer of novels.

«It's as if they had expected - said Mariano's daughter Patrizia, on Qn-il Resto del Carlino - When I learned about my uncle, shortly after my father's death, I thought of what one often hears about the telepathy of twins'. They were united by a very strong bond."
