After hours of work, the firefighters managed to put out the fire that broke out at the Eni refinery in Stagno , in the municipality of Collesalvetti, near Livorno, which triggered the alarm throughout the province, especially for the black smoke and exhalations released.

According to reports from 115, the fire, which also triggered an explosion, involved the "hot oil furnace" inside the plant and after the fire extinguishing operations, which also saw teams from Pisa, Lucca and Florence, cooling and reclamation operations have been started. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

After the alert, the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Livorno had, as a precaution, invited the citizens to keep their windows closed. The Municipality, again as a precaution, had instead authorized the early exit from schools.

Then, around 4 pm, the all-clear, with the situation, as reported by the municipality itself, fully "back to normal".

However, investigations on the incident started. Based on a first hypothesis, the plant was under maintenance and perhaps there were hydrocarbon residues that caught fire.
