A large anti-mafia operation, conducted by the Carabinieri of Lecce, began this morning at dawn in Puglia and in other locations nationwide, with dozens of arrests. There are 88 restrictive measures issued by the GIP of the Court of Lecce, Francesca Mariano, at the request of the District Anti-mafia Directorate.

The operation is conducted both in Lecce and in the South Salento, in the South East area of the province and in other regions of Italy. The crimes contested are mafia-type criminal association, criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, possession, illegal carrying of firearms with the aggravating circumstance of mafia facilitation and other crimes against the person and property .

More than 470 soldiers from the Lecce provincial command are involved , with the support of specialized units including soldiers from the operational intervention company and the anti-terrorism teams of the 11th Puglia Carabinieri regiment, the Modugno (Bari) Carabinieri dog unit, the Puglia hunter helicopter squadron, the 6th Bari Carabinieri helicopter unit, as well as reinforcements from other commands in Puglia.
