Amarena, the "most famous bear in Italy", was shot and killed on the outskirts of San Benedetto dei Marsi (L'Aquila), outside the Park and adjacent area.

The news was given by the Abruzzo National Park through its Facebook page. We are talking about a very serious fact because, it is explained, it affects one of the most prolific females in the history of the Park.

The Park Guards promptly intervened on the spot given the area where Amarena had gone down with her puppies. The Park veterinarian arrived but was only able to ascertain the death of the bear given the seriousness of the wound.

The shooter was a man, identified by the park rangers and then subjected to the findings by the carabinieri of the local station.

"I shot out of fear but I didn't want to kill, I found it inside my property, it was an impulsive, instinctive act," he allegedly declared.

Amarena was so called because it was fond of cherries. "Although causing damage to agricultural and zootechnical activities, always and in any case compensated by the Park even outside the boundaries of the Contiguous Area, it had never created any kind of problem for man", adds the Park.

Nothing is known at the moment of her two puppies.
