Now it's official. The green light from the Technical Scientific Committee has arrived for the third dose of the anti-Covid vaccine for the over 80s and the guests of assisted healthcare residences.

Government experts, on the other hand, have postponed the decision on extending the third dose to healthcare personnel as well, because they are not fragile subjects and there is no urgency.

According to the latest government report, 4,562,910 people over eighty are in Italy, of these 4,223,086 are already fully vaccinated, while 243,117 have not yet taken a dose.

The over 80s (including those residing in the RSA) will join those who can already ask for the third dose at the moment: there are about three million immunocompromised, transplanted and cancer patients with certain specificities.

For the third dose, only the mRna vaccines currently approved in Italy, therefore Pfizer and Moderna, will be used.
