"I'm apologizing to many people, but it will never be enough."

Alessandro Impagnatiello , the 30-year-old barman accused of the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Giulia Tramontano , takes the stand in the Milan courtroom on the day the trial begins for the events that occurred last May 27, when the girl was murdered with 37 stab wounds .

«I was caught up in something that will always be inexplicable, I apologize for my inhumanity . I was shocked and lost, that day I destroyed the child I was ready to welcome. I left that day too, I'm here talking but I no longer live . I don't ask for these apologies to be accepted, because I feel every day what it means to lose a child and much more, I cannot ask for forgiveness. I only ask that this apology be heard and this is the opportunity to do so,” he said, his voice cracking and stuttering, stressing that he was “completely naked.” «The only thing I do in the evening – he added – is hope not to wake up again in the morning» .

Spontaneous declarations that Chiara and Franco Tramontano, Giulia's sister and father, did not listen . It was "too heavy", the two left the room when the barman started talking.

Then Chiara herself responded in kind in a story on Instagram: «You can apologize if you accidentally hit the mirror of my car, not if you poison my sister and my nephew, making fun of us and mocking her figure. You have no right to pronounce, invoke or think about Giulia and Thiago (it would have been the name of Giulia's son, ed.). After killing them barbarically, you deserve to wake up every day in prison thinking about what you did and feeling disgust for yourself ."

«Impagnatiello's statements come at an incipient moment in the proceedings. He cannot be subject to questions - recalled Giovanni Cacciapuoti, lawyer for the victim's family - and therefore has the full right and freedom to be able to say what he deems most appropriate in the protection of his legal position".

« The apologies – he underlined – come seven months later. And Mr. Impagnatiello was not responsible for an impromptu gesture, but for months he fed rat poison to his partner and his own son . This is something that pains me immensely, it would have already been difficult to digest and inconceivable if it had been the result of a disproportionate spontaneous reaction. The cards say different things."

An "absolutely sincere" repentance instead according to Giulia Gerardini, the lawyer who defends Impagnatiello . «The excuses came from him, he cannot explain what happened, he is dismayed and feels very bad. It was the first opportunity to speak with the family and therefore he felt like apologizing, he is in a situation of great pain."

Giulia Tramontano was killed last May 27 with 37 stab wounds , she was in her seventh month, and the Milan prosecutor Alessia Menegazzo recalled: «Last March, for months now, the accused had been administering poison to the victim». The prosecution requested the admission of all the witnesses indicated in its list: carabinieri, technical consultants, family members of Giulia, the 23-year-old Italian-English woman with whom Impagnatiello had a parallel relationship and the accused himself. According to the investigations, she too could have been killed that night and on May 27th she had met Giulia shortly before she was stabbed.

The Court admitted all the evidence and witnesses requested by the prosecution, defense and civil party and adjourned the hearing to February 12th, also setting hearings for March 7th and 21st. Giulia Tramontano's family members were admitted as civil parties, the Municipality of Senago was not .
