Illness on board a tanker departing from Naples and headed for Sarroch. The alarm reached the operations room of the Coast Guard at Rome Fiumicino this morning : the first engineer officer of the merchant ship, which was about 25 miles off the coast of Fiumicino, fell ill.

The same Operations Room requested immediate radiomedical assistance from the Cirm (International Radiomedical Center) which, after having carried out the appropriate evaluations, identified the possible pathology and proposed immediate evacuation from board.

Under the coordination of the Maritime Directorate of Civitavecchia, a SaR patrol boat immediately left the naval base of the Coast Guard of Fiumicino, which reached the ship in the open sea in about 40 minutes.

Once alongside the seaman, a 48-year-old Italian who was conscious the whole time, was transferred and taken by patrol boat to the Fiumicino canal port to be handed over to the 118 health workers, who had been previously alerted by the Operations Room to transport the patient to the Grassi hospital in Ostia for the necessary checks.
