Tortured, beaten with belts and rocks, and burned in the face with cigarettes left on her skin. She was subjected to a drowning attempt. The victim was a 20-year-old Italian woman who had fought off a 38-year-old man. The alarm raised by a passerby was crucial in saving her life, allowing the young woman to be rescued in time. The police were thus able to arrest a man from the Dominican Republic, charged with torture and attempted sexual assault. The events occurred a few days ago.

According to police, the 20-year-old woman rejected the 38-year-old. Then the fury and violence erupted. The victim had agreed to meet him to spend a long afternoon on the banks of the Pescia River, a green space popular for leisure activities. But the date quickly turned into a nightmare. According to investigators, he pushed her into the water, using "controlled drowning techniques" to break her physical and mental resistance and then abuse her. The assault then continued to the shore, where the victim was repeatedly struck in the legs with a belt and rocks, and her face was burned by stubbing out cigarettes. The series of violent attacks was interrupted by the timely intervention of a passerby, who had heard the girl's screams of pain and her dramatic plea for help.

The citizen immediately dialed the emergency number 112. Upon seeing first responders, the attacker fled before the Pescia Police Department arrived. However, investigators quickly identified the alleged perpetrator, who later turned out to have numerous criminal records, some of which were specific, but who was nevertheless at liberty. The 38-year-old was arrested on serious suspicion of guilt and is now in Pistoia prison at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
