Maria Filia, 59 years old from Uri, didn't make it. She died in Voghera hospital (Pavia) a few hours after emergency hospitalization, due to serious injuries sustained after being run over while crossing the Via Emilia, in Torricella Verzate.

The accident happened yesterday evening, Saturday 6 January, at 8.30pm, when the woman, according to initial reconstructions, crossed the always very busy road, at a point outside the pedestrian crossing. The motorist, who stopped to help her, is under investigation for vehicular manslaughter. The man stated that he did not see her due to poor visibility.

To the health workers who arrived with the ambulance, the 59-year-old's condition immediately appeared serious. They tried in vain to resuscitate her before transporting her in code red to the nearest hospital in Voghera. But only a few hours later the doctors had to give up and declare his death. The carabinieri of the Stradella company were also at the scene of the accident, investigating the dynamics and prosecuting for vehicular homicide.

Maria Filia, unmarried and left without parents, five years ago decided to leave Sardinia to move to Casteggio, in Lombardy, to the home of one of her two sisters. The news hit the town of Uri where his relatives live.
