The Rome Public Prosecutor's Office is proceeding for the crime of false accounting in an investigation concerning the balance sheet of Autostrade per l'Italia, Aspi , and has seven people under investigation, including the CEO Roberto Tomasi and the former CEO Giovanni Castellucci .

According to the newspaper La Repubblica, the investigators' activity is focused on over 500 million euros for the maintenance and construction of motorway works that were allegedly allocated incorrectly .

The crimes contested also include stock market manipulation, obstruction of supervision and market manipulation.

The magistrates' investigations concern the destination of the revenues obtained through tolls.

A portion of these revenues must be allocated to finance the company's works: Aspi determines the resources needed to carry out a specific project and these must be set aside in a specific and dedicated fund. However, if a project is revoked, the resources must remain available in the fund for any new projects. But according to the prosecution, this fund was not properly placed in the company's balance sheets.
