Acquitted because the fact does not constitute a crime. This is the sentence of the Milan court against Mauro Pili, accused of defamation following a complaint presented five years ago by the top management of the Onorato group.

The former president of the Region, now a reporter for L'Unione Sarda, as a first parliamentarian and as leader of Un idos then, had conducted a media campaign with the aim of denouncing the distortions in the management of the agreement of maritime territorial continuity , then entrusted to Cin-Tirrenia.

At the center of the criminal case was a series of posts and videos published on Facebook between 2018 and 2019 . Documents and images in hand, Pili had spoken of the use of sea carts on the routes to and from Sardinia, of changes to the agreements between the State and the shipowner which had allowed huge savings to private individuals to the detriment of the Sardinians who saw reduced services, the failure to pay 180 million by the Onoratos for the acquisition of Tirrenia (first public) and had signaled a state of severe financial crisis for the group.

In addition, he had called Vincenzo and Achille, Onorato father and son, "Pinocchio and Pinocchietto" for statements made to the press which then had not been followed up on in practice. Very harsh criticisms, which had triggered the reaction: the shipowners had filed a lawsuit, announcing a request for damages of 20 million.

In Cagliari they had also started a criminal case for stalking, because they considered Pili's campaign as a persecution. The Sardinian vein ended with an archiving. Today the first degree epilogue arrived before the Court of Milan.

The prosecution had asked for the payment of 1,032 euros . The lawyers of the civil parties (Vincenzo and Achille Onorato, as well as Moby and Cin) had concluded the argument by adding a request for provisional compensation of 50,000 euros each .

This morning the judge Maria Cristina Filiciotto pronounced the verdict of acquittal . The one requested by Pili's defender, Daniele Ripamonti.
