Ciro Grillo is studying to become a criminal lawyer and will be able to defend himself in the gang rape trial in which he was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Tempio Pausania Court.

Beppe Grillo said this in an interview on Pulp Podcast, Fedez and Davide Marra's podcast.

"My son is going through a somewhat peculiar period, a very difficult time, which he's working through. He graduated with honors, he's started a family, a wonderful daughter, a wife, he's studying to become a criminal lawyer and proclaim his innocence to the world, he wants to defend himself and proclaim his innocence," Grillo said.

On September 22, 2025, the son of the M5S founder was sentenced to eight years by the Tempio Pausania Court for gang rape, in the trial related to the events that occurred in Beppe Grillo's villa on the Costa Smeralda on the night of July 16-17, 2019. His friends Edoardo Capitta and Vittorio Lauria received the same sentence, while Francesco Corsiglia received a lighter sentence—six years. The appeals trial is scheduled to begin in November.

Grillo also spoke about the Five Star Movement, which he no longer recognizes as the party he founded, and categorically denied rumors of a new party being founded: "I don't have the power to do so, I don't have the authority. I can only provide input on ideas."
